Maya Abdominal Therapy & Indigenous Womb Healing

October 25

I’ve practiced this technique for 7 years - quietly. (Goodbye, quiet! I want my friends and family to know about this work and bother me w/ questions!)

I thought I was a little weird for being drawn to rub bellies and listen to people’s stories of painful periods, constipation and poor digestion, and scar pain after cesarean sections and surgeries.

But I love seeing the whole-body changes that many notice after a single session, and the surprising emotional, ancestral and spiritual cleansing that often follows.

I love how it feels like an extension of my birth work as a doula, and allows me to keep working with families in between pregnancies - just like a traditional midwife.

Now, I realize this work and wisdom needs to be in EVERYONE’S hands. Many teachers say that emotions are held in the belly, and ours are beyond full right now. Stay tuned for more info via posts and a monthly virtual Belly + Womb Care class.

I’ll do my best to share what I’ve learned from my teachers: Panquetzani @indigemama, Rosita Arvigo @drrositaarvigo, Cathy Lipsky, Beth Townsend, Cathy Calderon, Kim Hart @adagioholistic, my ancestors and spirit guides.

To find a practitioner near you, visit Arvigotherapy.com, try a google search, or find your local birthworkers and ask them where to look! We are often hiding. Some may also offer reduced pricing on a sliding scale, if you ask.

If you know anyone in a position to support research & storytelling on this technique, please contact me!

We need creative ways to PRESERVE the integrity of cultural practices, while also demonstrating that they are safe and do wonders, and get more people, BIPOC people, trans people, birthing people, all people ACCESS to this work.
